Dazzling diamonds are without a doubt the most well-known and coveted gemstones on earth. They’re cherished for their sparkle and association with love, riches, and glamour. They’re so popular in fact, that those of you with April birthdays may think you already know everything there is to know about diamonds. But here at Kristen Baird® we always have a few tricks up our sleeves. From color to creation, I’m going to introduce you to a side of diamonds you’ve never seen before.
Did you know diamonds can come in a variety of gorgeous colors? You may have seen a picture of the stunning green diamond engagement ring Ben Affleck gave to JLo (round 2)! These gems, known as Fancy Diamonds, happen to be some of my absolute favorites. (You know I like stepping off the beaten path!) Blue and pink fancy diamonds are among the rarest stones in the world - and the most expensive. Fortunately, other shades are just as unique while being much more attainable.
Consider, for example, the luscious and mysterious black diamond. Black diamonds are elegant, evocative, and - dare I say it - a little bit sexy. If a black diamond were a person, she’d be the sophisticated and brilliant lady spy who goes toe-to-toe with James Bond. And who doesn’t want that wrapped up in a ring!
Check out this feminine yet edgy Dandelion Bloom ring featuring a black diamond contrasted with a rose gold bezel. So eye-catching and stunning! The piece is also available with standard diamonds (shown here) and champagne diamonds. This bubbly champagne shade ranges from deep caramel to bright yellow, and is perfect for someone looking for that vintage Gatsby vibe.
If you’re loving the black and pink look, the rose gold Petite Pop necklace is also available with a black diamond!
Then again, colorless diamonds aren’t really colorless, are they? A well-cut diamond will reflect all the colors of the rainbow and there is truly nothing on earth more sparkly. And I LOVE sparkly things! At times, natural “out of the ground” diamonds can be costly, which makes them a challenging choice for birthday jewelry. This is one of the reasons I highly recommend considering lab-grown diamonds.
Lab-grown diamonds are not synthetic; they are 100% real diamonds in every sense of the word. The only difference is they were grown in a lab rather than under the earth. In addition to being more environmentally friendly, lab diamonds are significantly more affordable. (Up to 30% less per carat than natural diamonds - maybe more, at times.) Now you can pamper yourself on your birthday without breaking the bank!
Here are a few of my favorite birthday pieces:
The popular Sunset Sparkle ring is now available in your choice of gold! This rose gold ring with lab-grown diamond is sweet, petite, and stackable.
Pieces from the Bonjour Belle Collection are also youthful and fun. Inspired by the magical summer I spent in Lacoste, France, the Petit Lavender Gem Studs and Precious Fleur necklace are graced with itty-bitty diamonds. They’re perfect for everyday wear and crafted by hand so no two blooms are exactly the same!
Last but certainly not least, my favorite stones are always the ones with special sentimental value. So if you have any loose stones or jewelry from grandma that you love but could use a redesign, an April birthday is a great occasion. Here are just a few fabulous options:
If you have several smaller stones, consider adding them to the sweet and simple Seashell Sparkle Necklace. The elegant design reflects light in every direction, emphasizing the sparkle of even the teeniest stones. Alternatively, you can opt for a customized version of the Veiled Horizon Gem Necklace with added diamond accents…or even better layer the two together! If earrings are more your thing, my classic Ripple Hoops can also be customized to feature petite diamonds.
The Around the Cosmos band is a lovely choice for stackable rings, or multiple bands can be given to different family members as a sentimental gift.
Finally, heirloom stones are a wonderful opportunity to create something completely unique, such as The Moon & Back ring. This thoughtful gift features diamonds from one man’s late mother and honors their favorite phrase “I love you to the moon and back!”
Diamonds are beloved around the world and for good reason, but there is still so much to learn about them. I hope you April birthday queens will be inspired to explore everything diamonds have to offer... and I hope this year is your best one yet!
