I love being contacted by friends, especially when it comes to creating pieces celebrating milestones just like this one: a 50th birthday! Even better when the recipient is a fan of my work and has several staple pieces in her very own “Kristen Baird collection”. I knew we had to do something that could stack with her existing cuff bracelet and create a nice duo that is always ready to wear. Read on to see how this Aquamarine Milestone project came to life.
An inspiring duo
This piece started out with an inspiration to use two of my classic and staple designs: the Galaxy Cuff and the Splash Bangle. But for this special piece we also wanted to incorporate significance in the gemstone selection and accents used across the surface of the cuff. We started with the thought of using her birthstone, aquamarine, as the main pop of color. She loves rose gold, so we also added 14K rose gold accents across the surface of the cuff, along with rose gold touches for the settings around the aquamarines.
From scraps to scrupulous
It's interesting to note that with my process, there are always scraps of metal left over from various stages. I keep all of these little teeny scraps to recycle and use again in different ways. This cuff is the perfect example of how micro scraps of metal can be transformed into beautiful accents and settings. As I started on the fabrication, the piece started coming together quite quickly. Of course, one of the best parts of a custom design is the fact that I can tailor the piece to the precise size it needs to be. This recipient, in particular, has a tiny wrist...but that is not a problem for me! Some extra attention to detail and I'm able to create an ideal fit.
It’s spectacular!
Isn't this Aquamarine Milestone cuff bracelet just spectacular? There's something about a combination of the teal-y aquamarine and the blush pink from the rose gold that really pops. As an added bonus, this cuff bracelet can be stacked with other cuff bracelets to form a stunning duo or even a dazzling trio. Layering is my jam! Fortunately, the recipient had a wonderful birthday all accented with her new commissioned cuff bracelet.
