Size Chart - Earrings
Earrings may be one-size-fits-all, but that doesn’t mean that one size is perfect for all. Since we’re aiming for personalized perfection here, there are a few things to think about when choosing a pair of earrings.
Start with your own comfort, any allergies, and - of course - what you like! Here’s a quick and easy guide to picking the perfect pair of earrings for you.
Introduction to Earring Styles
There are three basic earring styles: studs, hoops, and dangles. Stud earrings are set on a post and flush to the ear. Hoops are classic circular frames that go all the way around the earlobe. Dangle earrings come in the biggest variety of shapes and sizes, but essentially they are any pendant earring that swings freely from the ear.
Choosing the Right Metals
Because the skin on the ear is very sensitive, allergies to certain metals are quite common. (We all remember the horror stories of cheap earrings turning our earlobes green!) Nickel is the most likely metal to cause allergic reactions, but I do not use any of it in my earrings (or my jewelry in general.). All of my earrings are sterling silver or 18K gold and my solders are also nickel-free.
It’s much less common to have an allergy to silver, but it does happen. Fortunately, there are many gold earring designs available on my site. When in doubt, I recommend opting for gold earrings or even platinum.
Choosing the Right Size
Many people love big statement earrings, but some find heavy earrings uncomfortable. That’s why many of my designs are available in multiple sizes. If you’re headache-prone or simply don’t like large earrings, opt for the mini or petite versions.
My Ripple Hoops are available in both standard and grand sizes, for the fashionistas out there. If you’re looking for itty bitty hoops, the Spiraling Wave earrings delicately hug the ear in the most petite hoop possible.
Earring Backs and Hooks
The number one piece of advice I have for earrings is to always wear the rubber stopper! I know it can seem redundant to put that stopper in after the metal earring back (using both the ear nut and the rubber back at the same time), but it makes a huge difference. Don’t lose your earrings!
All of my earrings are made with simple posts for studs and French hooks for dangles. For extra security, I also offer a lever-back upgrade. Just reach out and let us know if you’re interested.
Layering Earrings
I am a huge supporter of layering and stacking jewelry, so it should come as no surprise that extends to earrings. I love contrasting simple studs, like the Seashell Speckle, with larger statement pieces, like the Glitter Trail. These days, even a full ear of sparkle can be sophisticated and classy. Go go ahead and get those extra piercings. There’s more opportunity to express yourself and have fun!
