As a designer, I pride myself on creating pieces that highlight the unique story and personality of the person who wears them. While my commission blog usually highlights bespoke pieces, designed from scratch, the majority of my commissions are customizations. These are personalized upgrades or variations on existing designs in my collections that nevertheless result in a one-of-a-kind creation.
These projects are so much fun, I just had to share them with you. So, I’ve decided to do regular round-ups of some of my favorite customizations throughout the year. Here are my top picks for Winter and Spring of 2023!
Sandy Breeze Spin
The Sandy Breeze Gem Bangle is the epitome of the Graceful Glimmer Collection - designed for mixing, matching, and stacking with tons of possible variations in metals and stones. But when a client came to me requesting an extra level of personalization I was all in.
This spin on the Sandy Breeze Gem bangle features five freeform rose-cut tourmaline stones, each in a slightly different shade of blue-green. Gorgeous! Rather than the petite round stones standard in this bangle, each of these larger and more abstract stones required building its own bezel. We opted for bezels in contrasting 18K yellow gold for a wholly original, modern look. I’m obsessed!
Seashell Sparkle Origin
Sometimes, a customization project goes so well that I end up adding it as an option in my collection pieces. This is what happened with this Seashell Sparkle necklace in 14K white gold and diamond. This client wanted to add gemstones to the Seashell Speckle necklace for a special gift, and I absolutely loved the way it turned out. He also wanted 6 “stations” as a symbolic number so we altered the original 5 station design to fit just right!
This necklace is perfect for layering with other pieces, like the Petite Pop or Bright Bubble. Now, you can choose your favorite metal as well as a huge variety of stones. Don’t see your favorite gemstone as an option? Don’t worry - we can always create a customized piece just for you!
Platinum Ripple Ring Stack
I talk a lot about layering and stacking jewelry, so it’s a dream come true to see a client take that vision and absolutely run with it. Although this ring stack may not have involved redesigning an individual piece, it’s the perfect example of how combining several pieces can be a way to express your personal style. For this client, that meant gorgeous platinum pieces with a subtle pop of peridot. (Side note - this august birthstone has been super popular recently. Check out my birthstone blog to learn more about this chartreuse stunner!)
The perfect commission piece doesn’t necessarily mean designing from scratch. Sometimes, it’s subtle changes and upgrades that make all the difference. Even the smallest details can make a big impact and the perk of working with an independent jewelry designer is that I’m here to help you! Reach out to me, and let’s create something amazing together!
