There's something very special about working with a repeat Client to create a new milestone piece celebrating their next stage in life. For this Client, I created a very special engagement ring, so when the time came for the wedding band, they gave me a call. I was so excited to hear from them! While I don't have a lot of men's wedding bands available ready-to-ship, I do, however, love creating men's pieces “to order”. Plus it's always fun when a “his & her” wedding band set connects or coordinates in some way...so this was the perfect project!
Strategic design plan
Like with all my pieces, I start with a strategic design plan and this was no different. For her band, we wanted to go very clean, something everyday wearable and of utmost importance - comfortable! This couple also requested internal engraving to mark their wedding date and initials. We even got down to the specifics of their favorite font, which I think is cool considering this couple is composed of two artists. I love it when artsy brains collide!
Texture, patina and curves...oh, my!
For his band, we came up with a similar idea on the interior - same text and style, but something a little bit different for the exterior. We played with several different profiles and curves to come up with this modern “stepped” band, complete with a very unique crosshatch texture. To top it off, I added a darkening patina to the whole surface of his band, then removed it from high-wear areas and certain parts of the texture to really give the piece an accent and a pop of contrast in the detailing.
Clean, modern and intricate duo
Overall this duo came out so nicely - clean, modern, intricate with personal dates and touches on the interior (you know I love those details!). What a joy it was to work with a repeat Client, yet again. I feel like I get to know people over time and that is very special for me as an artist and designer!
