Something Green Peridot Bridal Set

Kristen Baird

Any Kristen Baird bride knows that I love to incorporate two things: color and family heirlooms. And while it’s traditional to mix in a little blue to your wedding look, I’m always delighted when a bride finds a different way to express herself. So when this spring bride chose a gown with subtle green tones, I was all for it. Even better, her mom brought me the most beautiful heirloom ring to redesign into a necklace and earring set for the big day. The Something Green Peridot Bridal Set has it all: gorgeous color, a sentimental story, and a quintessential Kristen Baird® design.

Pretty Petals and Perfect Peridot

After having the honor of designing the Marquise Sunrise Engagement Ring and the couple’s wedding bands, the Mother-of-the-Bride came to me with yet another surprise: a gorgeous 14K white gold ring from the bride’s grandmother. This large ring had an intricate floral petal design, which just happened to be extremely similar to the beaded vine pattern on the bride’s dress! The beautiful beading also has a subtle green tint, perfect for spring. (Truly, this bride has exquisite taste!)

I knew that I wanted to incorporate the petal designs directly into the jewelry, as well as one of my favorite but lesser-used gemstones: peridot!

A Super Sweet Jewelry Suite

Knowing the bride prefers to wear petite stud earrings, I first turned to the Daisy Studs as a reference. But rather than an oval gemstone, I pulled two beautiful pear-shaped peridot stones from my studio. I built a custom four-prong setting for the stones, then used the laser welder to frame the bottom with a trio of petals from the ring. I didn’t even have to build new bezels for these diamonds, because the existing ones were perfect. Voila!

For the necklace, we opted for a play on the Veiled Horizon Gem, but with a much twistier, vine-shaped design. Then, I added in petals from the ring as well as very petite peridot stones for a hint of color.

Many Things Borrowed

This build was especially exciting because I was able to use almost all of the heirloom ring. For the vine portion of the necklace, I cut off the band and melted it to twist into the final shape. Then, I cut off the diamonds, keeping the petal-shaped motif intact. We used a black Sharpie to mark on the vine where the petals should go, then simply zapped them into place with the laser welder! Finally, I built the 14K white gold settings for the peridot gems and laser-welded them into place.

One great surprise was that the Mother of the Bride happened to have a white-gold chain that wasn’t being used. I was able to retrofit the chain with a few jump rings, then use my signature Cresent Connection to seamlessly connect it to the bar, the perfect finishing touch.

The Big Reveal

Although the bride knew her jewelry set was coming, she didn’t actually see it until a few days before her wedding. (I know, a brave woman!) But when her mother gave it to her, she was over the moon. A few days later, my friend and client posted this to Facebook:

“Wow… what a weekend! Our daughter M married her partner J in a truly beautiful celebration. It was everything we could have hoped for and more, a day that felt seamless, joyful, and so full of love. It truly takes a village to bring something like this to life, and we are incredibly grateful to the amazing local vendors who made it all possible…

Kristen Baird Jewelry designed exactly what we envisioned.”

I’m beyond grateful to have been a part of this family’s celebration. Thank you so much for trusting Kristen Baird® Jewelry… and Congratulations!
