Introducing Pantone's Ultra Violet

Kristen Baird

Pantone, huh? Who? Why? What do they do? Well, I'm so glad you asked!

To be technical for a moment, Pantone LLC, is the world-renowned authority on color. Period. The PANTONE® name is known around the globe as the standard language for color communication from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer. Through their Pantone Color Institute, they research and share color expertise with professionals in a variety of industries including fashion, commercial/industrial, contract and interior design, graphic arts, advertising, film and education.

So why does it matter? Chosen by the Pantone Color Institute, Color of the Year is one moment in time that provides strategic direction for the world of trend and design.  So for those of us in the design industry, it’s kind of a big deal! We see it trickle down into nearly every part of the design, fashion, interior design, etc.

A few years ago, they picked a rose gold color and if you noticed, rose gold is THE DEAL as of late. Last year, was a spring green called Greenery, very similar to peridot. This year they picked a color called Ultra Violet - which is basically a fancy term for an amethyst. Jewelers rejoiced when they discovered that this year, it was going to be amethyst!

According to Pantone.com, Ultra Violet is complex and contemplative. It suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own. Ohhhh, prettyyyyy!

So staying on trend, here are a few of our favorites for Ultraviolet, aka Amethyst...

  1. The next time you’re looking to make a statement, look no further than the Boulder Necklace (image 1) for its unique grandeur.

  2. Pairing creativity with simplicity, our Teardrop Earrings (image 4) are the perfect choice for any outfit. Inspired by the elegant form of raindrops on a glass windowpane, these earrings effortlessly dress up a basic white tee or top off a black tie gown.

  3. Created for the adventurous, free-spirit, the Pansy Petals + Around the Cosmos (image 2) set bursts with rich color like a bed of blooming pansies in the fall. Crafted of 18K yellow gold, (and available in 18K rose gold or platinum), this ring is not made for the shrinking violet!

  4. As if dropped into a smooth, quiet pond, amethyst gemstones sit at the center of our popular one-of-a-kind Ripple Rings(image 3,6)
  5. A brand new piece - coming soon! - (image 5) features all three shades of amethyst: pink amethyst, Brazil amethyst, and African amethyst. Still working on naming this one...shout out your suggestions!
