Brand-New Lab-Grown Gemstones

Kristen Baird

There are so many reasons to love lab-grown gemstones. Lab stones are chemically identical to natural stones and often more environmentally friendly. High-quality lab stones are usually more attainable from a cost perspective than natural stones. For all these reasons, I’ve used lab gems in my jewelry ever since I started offering gold. Recently, however, I’ve found a new reason to love lab gemstones: brand-new cuts and colors that I can’t find anywhere else!

For the past several years, I’ve been following an independent gem dealer who offers beautifully cut lab gemstones that fall outside the “standard” colors. His is a true family business, like mine. They source, cut, and deal the stones all in-house, the “farm to table” version of gem dealing! I finally reached out and we started working together regularly. I’m absolutely floored by the results! Based on these new one-of-a-kind stones, I’ve been able to develop a whole new line of statement Ripple Rings!

Here are just a few of the brand-new designs available in my studio right now:

Precious Pinks

Kristen Baird - New Lab Gems - Precious Pinks

I’ve written about pink sapphires before, but you’ve never seen them like this!

Lunar Glow with Lab-Grown Ballet Pink Sapphire - The moment I saw this ballet pink sapphire, I had to have it. The sweet pastel color and the beautifully faceted round cut have me dancing on my tiptoes!

Zinnia Petals with Lab-Grown Hot Pink Sapphire - Introducing one of my brand-new Ripple Ring designs! The Zinnia Petals ring celebrates the wide petals and ultra-bright colors of the Zinnia flower. What better stone to emulate this flower than a hot pink sapphire? Ooh la la!

Beneath the Stars Variation with Lab-Grown Padparadscha Sapphire - The peachy-pink padparadscha sapphire does exist in nature, but it is extremely rare and difficult to find. Fortunately, we can now get this gorgeous color from a lab! I love peaches and soft pinks, and this upgraded Beneath the Stars ring demonstrates just how special this color can be.

Creative Colors

These lab-grown gemstones allow me to offer color shades I’ve never had before, from pastels to jewel tones.

Marigold Ring with Lab-Grown Champagne Sapphire - Another addition from my new line of Ripple Rings, the Marigold Ring features a large north-south set rectangular cushion cut stone. Cushion cuts are a great alternative to emerald cuts and princess cuts when you want that geometric shape but with softer curves. Like a beautifully aged champagne, this deep amber has me feeling all bubbly inside.

Zinnia Petals with Lab-Grown Alexandrite - Color-changing Alexandrite has long been one of my favorite lab-grown gemstones. I love that I can now find a cushion-cut variety of this stone, perfect for my brand-new ring design! The originality of these gems isn’t just about color; it’s also about unique cuts, sizes, and shapes!

Lunar Glow Ring with Lab-Grown Mint Green Sapphire - By now, you’re probably noticing a clear pattern. Many of these new gemstones are sapphire variations because sapphires come in such a wide variety of colors. With new lab techniques, I’m thrilled to see even more shades of sapphire, like this refreshing mint green. Perfect for spring!

Brilliant Blues

I’m starting to think that “getting the blues” might actually be a good thing!

Perennial Band with Trillion-Cut Lab-Grown Vivid Cobalt Blue Spinel - I’m beyond excited to introduce the Perennial Band as part of my new line of Ripple Rings. This versatile band can accommodate any stone size or shape, so I can be ready for whatever unique gemstone comes my way. First up is this gorgeous trillion-cut cobalt blue spinel. This is one of the most intense blues I’ve ever seen in a gemstone, and I’m here for it!

Note: Because of the nature of this highly customized band, I can't offer it on my website. Reach out if you want to create one!

Marigold Ring with Lab-Grown Blue Spinel - You can definitely distinguish the difference between these two shades of blue spinel, showcasing its wide range of color possibilities. As a side note, I love blue spinel so much that I used one in my own engagement ring.

Snow Flurry Ring with Lab-Grown Cornflower Blue Sapphire - The final addition to my new line of Ripple Rings! The Snow Flurry Ring features a 7x9mm emerald-cut gemstone, the largest emerald-cut stone I’ve ever offered in my gold rings. What better piece to show off than this beautiful Cornflower Blue Sapphire? I’m obsessed!

So you tell me, which of these new stones do you love most?

I can’t wait to release more unique and one-of-a-kind rings in the near future. If you love one of these pieces, reach out right away. Once they’re gone, they’re not coming back!
