Tsavorite Treasure

Kristen Baird

Oftentimes, people come across my work in various locations or see me at events and I never know where these interactions may lead. This is the perfect example. This client reached out to me saying she had seen my work a long time ago and just couldn't get it out of her head. She sent a few pictures and said she had this beautiful tsavorite garnet, to which I said, “oh my goodness, I hope I get to work with this stone!”, and we were off to the races designing her very own Kristen Baird® original to fit her tsavorite garnet gemstone. Read on to see how this Tsavorite Treasure came to life.

Tsavorite Treasure - The Design by Kristen Baird

No problem there!

We started with the inspiration of the Peridot Ripple Ring (pictured far left), which had originally caught her attention most, and she wanted to know my ideas on how to recreate that idea, but to make it work with her stone. After she sent me her stone, I began by giving her a few examples that I had in stock. We played a little with the idea of the above pictured middle rings that have the diamonds on the sides, but later determined that was a bit too fancy. Then we played with the ring pictured on the right, which had a nice undulating band that tapered and led up to the stone. She really seemed to like that one! More so, she really liked the right-hand side of that particular example. No problem there! I could create exactly what she wanted based on the sample that I sent images of.

Ooh la la!

First, I started with raw silver to create her perfect band and gemstone setting. We knew we wanted a nice taper to the design. We knew she wanted texture, which happens to come at the very end, and we knew the setting needed to perfectly fit her stone. From the above image, you can see the design starting to come to life...but in silver! Next step - send off for casting into 14 karat white gold...ooh la la!

Fine-tuning

Once I received the 14 karat white gold ring back, I began doing the fine-tuning. This is where the texture is applied by hand, all the edges are smooth and rounded, and the piece really starts to take shape. Once all of that was done, it was time to set her tsavorite garnet. That green tone is just so lovely! I was so excited when the stone was finally set and the ring came to life - ready for its new adventures.

A true treasure

Isn't she just a beauty? Like something straight out of a fairytale treasure box! The white gold really gives that clean look and the rich shade of green has just the right amount of pop. This ring is a perfect blend of symmetrical lines yet has an organic touch with lots of texture.  Best of all, the piece is comfortable, while showing off its unique style. But don’t take my word for it, check out the review from the happy client below.

“I love it! Thank you so much. It fits even after a day in the heat! I hope to meet you in Savannah one day. Take care, Kristen!” -JV
