This Commission was for a repeat client. We first worked on her Warrior Women piece, which was a piece made in memory of the powerful women in her family. This new piece she wanted to make for herself…let's call it a self-purchase. She already had wonderful materials left over from her first project including sapphires, rubies, emeralds and diamonds, but wanted something unique - a versatile stacking set with a modern twist. So, let’s dive into this story!
Design Inspiration
She first saw the River Ring, which caught her attention, so we ran with it as our inspiration. She also saw my Meteor Shower Stack and was captured by the trio of metals - 14k rose gold, 14k white gold and 14k yellow gold. With those materials and inspiration in mind, we started out on the design process.
The best fit for this project was using computer-aided design (CAD), to model the rings and to create the design. Every time I work on a custom project, I like to think about the best method to achieve the most favorable results and for this one, it was definitely CAD. We worked through a variety of layouts, combinations of metals, gemstone placement and arrived at the outcome you can see above.
A Masterpiece in the Making
Once the Client signed off on the design, it was off to the making for me. I sent the ring models out to be prototyped into wax and cast into the proper 14 karat metals. Upon receiving them back, I was so excited because the rings fit together like a perfect puzzle and to the delight of my client, she can stack them in multiple ways and combinations, which is even more fun!
The Finale
Overall, this piece worked out so beautifully! I'm always grateful for clients who latch onto inspiration and then turn over control so I can make their ideas into a beautiful reality. This tri-metal trio stack is the perfect self-purchase and my client was overjoyed with this one-of-a-kind piece just for her...using leftover materials! Nothing like recycling into something new and fun.
